- On May 22, 2025, President Bola Tinubu officially administered the oath to the newly appointed 11-member board and executive management of NNPCL during a ceremony held at Aso Rock in the capital city, Abuja.
- The inauguration followed the dismissal of the previous NNPCL board, including former Chairman Pius Akinyelure and CEO Mele Kyari, and occurred seven weeks after the appointments on April 2, 2025.
- The new board includes Non-Executive Chairman Ahmadu Kida, CEO Bashir Ojulari, representatives from all six geopolitical zones, and officials from key ministries such as Finance and Petroleum Resources.
- President Tinubu directed the board to boost oil production to two million barrels per day by 2027 and to raise gas output to 8 billion cubic feet per day within the same timeframe, while aiming for crude oil refining volumes to grow to 200,000 barrels daily by 2027 and 500,000 barrels daily by 2030.
- After the brief but symbolic ceremony, the president proceeded to the APC National Summit, emphasizing the administration’s focus on expanding Nigeria’s energy sector capacity through the new board’s mandate.
