Tinubu returns to Nigeria after state visit to Türkiye

Tinubu secured nine agreements in defence, energy, and education and a $5 billion trade target with Türkiye, up from the current $2 billion, officials said.

  • President Bola Tinubu has arrived back in Nigeria following his Türkiye trip, landing at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at exactly 8:55 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Departing on January 26, Tinubu began the Türkiye trip on Tuesday to deepen collaboration and secured Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's pledge to raise trade volume to $5 billion from about $2 billion.
  • The signing package includes Diaspora Policy, Defence Cooperation, a Joint Economy and Trade Committee, and Halal Quality Infrastructure, covering strategic sectors.
  • Members of the presidential delegation included Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Lateef Fagbemi, Gen. Christopher Musa , and Nuhu Ribadu, while President Erdoğan spoke during a joint press briefing with Tinubu.
  • Erdoğan said the Joint Economy and Trade Committee would boost Turkish investment opportunities in Nigeria, with discussions to actualise targets already underway; Türkiye exports planes, helicopters, machinery, iron and steel, and chemical products while Nigeria supplies crude oil and agricultural products.
