Times Square Will Mark America’s 250th with Special July Ball Drop
Times Square will feature a second ball drop on July 3 to launch America’s 250th anniversary, highlighting national service and patriotic celebrations, America250 said.
- This New Year's Eve, the Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop will host the annual Miss Sally Popcorn Ball Drop, with the six-foot, 240-pound ball descending around 11:58 p.m. in downtown Chagrin Falls.
- To honor Miss Sally this year, organizers named the 240-pound Popcorn Ball after her, with Dewey Forward calling it `an honor` to do so.
- Festivities start at 10:30 p.m. at the Chagrin Township Hall, moving to the Village Triangle at 11 p.m. with hot chocolate, cookies, music, historic films by Chagrin History Center, Jim Brosious igniting the cannon, and 400 popcorn balls launched into over 1000 attendees.
- The event doubles as a fundraiser for Chagrin Township Hall, created by a volunteer group with an average age of 75, while also celebrating the reconstructed 150-year-old Main Street Bridge and the longstanding Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop.
- Choosing a popcorn-themed drop reflects the village's unique identity, after organizers rejected other ideas like opossum, watermellow, and Potato, based on the Merry Pranksters' back story.
