Helicopter Wreckage Removed From Huntington Beach Crash Site
Five people, including a child, were injured when a 1980 Bell 222 helicopter crashed during a preview flight for the Cars and Copters event, authorities said.
- On October 11, 2025, a helicopter came down around 2 p.m. in a beach parking lot between Twin Dolphins Drive and Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach, injuring five people who were taken to area hospitals.
- The helicopter was part of the Cars N' Copters preview and Eric Nixon, pilot and aviation influencer, took off from Redlands Municipal Airport, flying about 40 minutes before the crash.
- Bystander video showed the aircraft hovering then suddenly spinning, and some footage appears to show the tail rotor slowing before it struck palm trees and a pedestrian bridge staircase.
- A city spokesperson said two people were extracted from the wreckage while three others on the ground were hurt, the pedestrian bridge remained closed Monday, and the passenger said she will have surgery soon while Nixon was hospitalized with broken ribs and crushed vertebrae.
- The National Transportation Safety Board has taken over the probe after the Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and authorities say the cause remains unknown as investigators review social media and news footage.
