Time to move on from LIV, says Oosthuizen
The former Open champion said a flexible schedule and LIV's uncertain future drove his decision after five seasons with the circuit.
On Wednesday, 2010 Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen announced he will leave LIV Golf to rejoin the DP World Tour in January 2027, describing the decision as the hardest of his career.
Citing scheduling concerns, Oosthuizen feared the LIV 2.0 model would demand extensive international travel for single events; he needs to "arrange my own schedule and look after my body."
The South African golfer will step down as captain of Southern Guards, the all-South African team he led since 2022, while calling his March 2026 event at Steyn City a career highlight.
Oosthuizen joins major champions Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed in departing LIV Golf, while the circuit secured $300 million in investment from BC Partners Credit to pursue a 2.0 model.
Returning from a two-month injury lay-off, the 44-year-old will compete in the 65th Link Hong Kong Open starting this Thursday in Fanling before preparing for his 2027 DP World Tour return.
