Baby girl dies while camping with family in woods
Police say the investigation is in its early stages after a three-month-old girl was found in cardiac arrest and later pronounced dead.
On Saturday at 08:45 BST, a three-month-old girl died after suffering cardiac arrest while camping with her family near Strawberry Lane in Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire, Staffordshire Police confirmed.
Detective Inspector Katie Gregory stated the death is being treated as 'unexplained' and described it as an 'isolated incident' involving a family camping in the Wyrley and Essington Branch Local Nature Reserve area.
Drone footage revealed four tents and camping chairs positioned near fishing platforms at the scene, which officers cordoned off approximately 550 metres from Strawberry Lane in a location described as 'hidden away'.
Cheslyn Hay District Councillor Robert Duncan expressed condolences, urging residents to 'avoid speculation and allow the family and responders the privacy and respect they deserve,' as the village of around 7,000 people reacted with shock.
Police maintained their presence on Sunday to carry out further inquiries and provide reassurance, while Rev Samantha Hagerman, Superintendent of the Cannock Chase Methodist Church Circuit, offered prayers for those affected.
