PSP initiate Rapid DNA Program to solve cases faster

The Pennsylvania State Police recently announced the initiation of their Rapid DNA program, which is described as a major step forward in their ability to bring justice to victims and hold offenders accountable.

State police say the Rapid DNA program includes 15 fully automated genetic analyzers that have been given to troops across the state.

From July 1, police will be able to search genealogy databases when hunting down perpetrators. DNA genealogist Peter Sjölund lists three cold murder cases that he believes could move forward with the new tool.

This summer, genealogy research will become the police's new tool for solving certain serious crimes. These are cases where the police have gotten stuck and are no longer able to proceed. "This could give us a chance to solve a number of such cases," says Niclas Andersson, head of the investigation unit at Noa.
