'Yes...96 Bananas': Men Steal Dozens of Bananas From Pennsylvania Wawa, Police Say
Police said the suspects made immediate restitution after surveillance footage led to their identification.
On April 4, two men stole approximately 96 bananas from a Pennsylvania Wawa, fleeing the scene in a black Hyundai Santa Cruz.
The Hatboro Police Department identified the suspects after releasing surveillance footage from the store, located 17 miles north of Philadelphia.
Following identification, the Pennsylvania Wawa requested only full payment for the bananas, and neither man was taken into custody after providing immediate restitution.
Detective Sergeant Conner Dilks told the Philadelphia Inquirer the suspects claimed it was a "drunken mistake," while police said, "Our investigators didn't monkey around and located the bandits in short order."
Dilks remarked this was the first large-scale banana theft in his nine years at the department, adding, "We do not expect any further monkey business from the individuals responsible.
