FBI Questions Minocqua Brewery Owner After Controversial Post About President Trump
The FBI said it and the Secret Service conducted a voluntary interview after the post drew bipartisan backlash.
- On Thursday, FBI and Secret Service agents interviewed Kirk Bangstad, owner of Minocqua Brewing Company, regarding a social media post promoting assassination of President Donald Trump following a security breach at a Washington, D.C. event.
- Following Saturday's shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Bangstad posted, "Either a brother or sister in the Resistance needs to work on their marksmanship or he faked another assassination to get a positive news cycle."
- Bangstad allegedly posted a Secret Service agent's phone number online and urged followers to tell the agent to "stand down," potentially violating the Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act, punishable by up to five years in federal prison.
- After Democratic candidates criticized the rhetoric on Tuesday, Bangstad characterized his statements as "hyperbole." Separately, Aspirus Health parted ways with executive Brian Kellar after he commented on the brewery's post following the assassination attempt.
- The inquiry follows previous posts where Bangstad offered "free beer" to celebrate the death of President Trump. The FBI's Milwaukee field office confirmed it investigates all threats of violence or terrorism.
