Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand Makes Cheeky Claim as Manchester City Reportedly Found Guilty of PL FFP Charges
Ferdinand joked he could gain a seventh Premier League medal after City were found guilty on 114 of 115 financial charges.
Manchester City has been found guilty on all but one of 115 charges relating to Premier League financial breaches. Rio Ferdinand joked on social media, "Another Premier League medal to be added to the cabinet."
The 115 alleged breaches span a nine-year period between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. Allegations include 54 counts of failing to provide accurate financial information and 14 charges relating to player and manager remuneration reporting.
Ferdinand's comments reference the 2011/12 season, when Manchester United lost the title to Manchester City on goal difference after Sergio Aguero's dramatic winner. He suggested he should receive a 7th medal if City were stripped of those titles.
The former defender also theorized that Jose Mourinho should receive an additional medal, noting Mourinho once called finishing second with Manchester United "one of the best jobs of my career."
Manchester City are expected to appeal the decision as potential sanctions range from financial penalties to expulsion from the competition. The Premier League process remains ongoing, subject to strict confidentiality.
