The Türkiye Plastic Waste Workshop has begun in Istanbul with the participation of approximately 600 people. The workshop is addressing the fight against plastic pollution, the circular economy, and feasible policies and solutions in line with Türkiye's 2053 Plastic Vision.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that plastic production has increased around 230 times worldwide over the past 70 years to over 460 million tons, while plastic waste has reached 353 million tons.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated at the Zero Waste Workshop that plastic production has increased 230-fold in 70 years, reaching 460 million tons, while the amount of waste has reached 353 million tons; only 9% of it is recycled. He announced that Türkiye has increased its recycling rate from 13% to 37.53% in 8 years, recovering 90 million tons of waste and contributing 365 billion lira to the economy.
