Yasuke appears in the "Nobunaga Koki," a biography of Nobunaga. One of the extant copies states that he was given a sword and a house, which is the basis for the claim that he was a samurai. At the very least, there is no record of him having achieved any merit in battle, so he was not a legendary samurai.
