Switch 2 ‘Borderlands 4’ Delayed Indefinitely, Pre-Orders Cancelled
Gearbox canceled all Switch 2 digital pre-orders and delayed Borderlands 4 to improve performance and add cross-save support, following criticism of earlier platform releases.
- On September 23, 2025, Gearbox Software announced the Nintendo Switch 2 release of Borderlands 4 has been delayed indefinitely, missing its October 3, 2025 launch date.
- After poor demo showings and platform issues, Gearbox Software cited extra development and polish time and aims to align the release with planned cross-save support.
- Since launching on September 12, 2025, Borderlands 4 has sold around 2.5 million copies and generated over $150 million, with Pitchford stating, `'It is a mistake to believe or expect that PCs between minimum specification and recommended specification can achieve all of extremely high frame rate, maximum/ultra features, and extremely high resolution.'`
- Digital pre-orders will be refunded, with automatic cancellations on September 26 and customers able to cancel manually now; physical pre-orders remain unaffected and require retailer contact.
- No new release date has been announced, and fans received nine days' warning to fans before the October 3, 2025 original launch date, Gearbox Software said.
