SAG Awards Change Name to the Actor Awards Starting in 2026
The Actor Awards will stream live on Netflix on March 1, reaching over 190 countries after moving from TNT and TBS in 2024, with 4.3 million views last year.
- SAG-AFTRA announced the Screen Actors Guild Awards will be renamed The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA, with nominations on January 7, 2026, and the 32nd Actor Awards streaming live on Netflix March 1, 2026.
- After moving to streaming and growing globally, leaders concluded the rename was timely, with SAG-AFTRA saying the change aligns the show with The Actor and began after the 2012 SAG–AFTRA merger.
- Nominations are determined by two nominating committees of 2,500 members, winners are chosen by more than 130,000 active SAG-AFTRA voters, and the Awards Committee guided the name change.
- To ease the transition, FYC campaign materials can continue using the Screen Actors Guild Awards through the pre-nomination voting period ending on January 5, 2026, while SAG-AFTRA said voting and eligibility rules remain unchanged.
- The awards retain their role as an Oscar bellwether and hope to reach new viewers, with Netflix reporting 4.3 million views last year and SAG-AFTRA stressing legacy and global clarity.
