Private hospital bill shocker: 68% flag excessive treatment costs
A LocalCircles survey found widespread complaints about high and opaque private hospital bills across India. The findings have sharpened scrutiny as Parliament pushes for caps, transparency and quicker grievance redressal.
Between 2018 and 2024, household spending on health grew 41.4% in real terms, according to the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey (ENIGH). At the same time, external consultation in private hospitals fell 4.8% last year and is now below the 2019 level.
