The prime minister urges Albertans to choose prosperity
Carney said Alberta’s future depends on unity as 10 referendum questions ask voters whether to remain in Canada or pursue separation.
On Thanksgiving Monday, Prime Minister Mark Carney released a video from Francis Xavier High School in Edmonton, urging Albertans to remain in Canada ahead of next week's referendum on the province's future.
Albertans head to the polls on Oct. 19 for a 10-question referendum, with the final question asking whether the province should remain in Canada or hold a second, binding separation vote.
Carney highlighted federal infrastructure commitments including housing initiatives, a high-speed rail route from Edmonton to Calgary, and a new pipeline to the West Coast as projects requiring national unity.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is scheduled to speak in Calgary on Friday, signaling that federal leaders across political lines are coordinating to urge the province to stay within Canada.
Carney warned that "we can't achieve any of this if we're divided," citing threats to Canada's economy and security while emphasizing "we are stronger together" to maintain national integrity.
