Pope Leo XIV Looks to Ukraine With Hope: ‘We Must Work Hard, Pray Hard’
Pope Leo XIV greets the faithful at the gates of Castel Gandolfo on Aug. 19, 2025. The Pontiff spoke with journalists waiting outside the papal residence at Castel Gandolfo before returning to Rome to discuss the conflict in the heart of Europe.
The pontiff asked the Catholic faithful "to include in their prayers the plea for peace throughout the world, especially in the Middle East and Ukraine."
León XIV says that sometimes he talks to other leaders involved in the war in Ukraine. "From time to time I talk to some. Continue. Let's pray and look for ways to progress," he said.
