After meetings with experts from the Competition Council, the Lithuanian Basketball Association has waived the licensing criteria for the Kaunas District Basketball Club Atletas to participate in the 2026–2027 National Basketball League (NKL) championships, the Competition Council said in a press release to the media.
The Competition Council received a request from the "Atleta Basketball Center" to initiate an investigation into the additional mandatory licensing criterion established by the Executive Committee of "Lietuvos Krespinos" in mid-July for the 2026–2027 NKL season, i.e. that at least 30 percent of the budget of all clubs wishing to compete in the league should be made up of municipal funds.
