There are university students in Hungary who have never read a single book in their entire lives. So the problem is not small, and according to experts, it often has its roots in families, but what is certain is that we need to rethink reading education on a systemic level. A debate was held at CEU about this.
They can review the list of mandatory readings with the involvement of experts, which can later be subject to social consultation. According to Judit Berg, Deputy Secretary of State for Literature and Public Education, contemporary works should be given a greater role in public education than they currently do, and writers and authors should be better involved in the promotion of reading.
