The Houthis obtained data about the ships from a Chinese space company. It also gave satellite images to the Wagner Group.

In mid-April, the United States accused the Chinese company Chang Guang Satellite Technology (CGST) of providing the Houthis with data on ships that were then attacked by Yemeni terrorists. The Chinese company is private, but it is linked to the Chinese military and has previously provided satellite images to the Wagner Group.
