SPAIN, AUG 3 – Aemet forecasts temperatures reaching 42°C in over 30 provinces due to warm, dry air from Africa, with warnings active until Sunday, Aug 10.
- On Monday 4 August, Aemet, Spain's state meteorological agency, issued amber warnings from 1pm to 9pm in regions like Córdoba and Granada, with maximums of 40C to 42C.
- Aemet attributes the heatwave to a mass of warm, dry air from the African continent and high levels of sunshine, predicting it will last until next Sunday 10 August.
- According to Aemet, inland areas of the peninsula will exceed 34C to 36C, while the southern half of the Atlantic slope and around the Miño will see temperatures above 40C to 42C.
- In Almería’s Poniente area and city, the maximum temperature will reach 36C, while José Luis Escudero warned Antequera will record up to 39C between 1pm and 9pm.
- Ahead of Thursday, Aemet issued a yellow heat warning for Tuesday 5 August in Málaga province and the Costa del Sol, with Escudero highlighting higher temperatures from Thursday.
