The rising water level of the Gandak River in Saran has worsened the flood situation in the Maker area. Traffic on the Chhapra-Muzaffarpur route has been disrupted due to 3 to 5 feet of water on NH-722. Approximately 170,000 people in 18 panchayats are affected. Seven NDRF-SDRF teams are engaged in rescue operations, while 28 community kitchens are being run.

Floods have wreaked havoc in Bihar. The extent of the devastation can be gauged from a satellite image released by NASA after 18 years of flooding in Bihar.
