Zelensky: A ‘Real Chance’ Exists to End the War in Ukraine
Ukraine and its allies are developing a two-layer security guarantee proposal to prevent future aggression, with outlines expected within 10 days, officials said.
Following discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on X that the arrangements for Ukraine’s security after the war will be finalized shortly, as teams from Ukraine, the US, and European partners continue to work on the framework.
This follows Kyiv starting work on security proposals after August 18 meetings in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders including Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said proposals will have two layers, while Schoof urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table soon.
Zelensky expressed optimism about the possibility of ending the conflict, stating that Ukraine is prepared to take positive and collaborative actions aimed at achieving genuine peace, while also emphasizing that Russia currently shows no willingness to pursue peace.
These developments indicate intensified efforts to strengthen Ukraine's defense and provide guarantees deterring further attacks, though Putin’s willingness to negotiate remains uncertain.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that security guarantees for Ukraine will be ready "in the coming days", following intensified efforts to end Russia's war against his country.
According to the Ukrainian President, "Ukraine is ready to take constructive steps that can bring about real peace," while "Russia shows no intention of peace on its side and continues to bomb [Ukrainian] cities."
