The European Parliament's Environment Committee supported Hoekstra as climate commissioner

MEPs on Wednesday voted in favour of former Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra as the European Commission's climate commissioner, despite concerns over his past ties to the oil industry.

The European Parliament's Environment Committee approved the nomination of Wopke Hoekstra as EU Commissioner on Wednesday morning, after answering additional written questions. On Thursday, the full parliament has yet to agree.

Following two rounds of tense negotiations, Wopke Hoekstra and Maroš Šefčovič received the European Parliament's blessing on Wednesday (4 October) to take on the climate and Green Deal portfolios in the European Commission.
