Ida Haapala Anchors Finland's Second-Place Team to Bronze at the European Orienteering Championships
The Finnish women's and men's top teams placed sixth.
The European Orienteering Championships continue in the Dzūkija forests on Sunday. The final day will feature relay races, in which Lithuania will be represented by 3 women's and 3 men's teams.
43 women's and 60 men's teams competed in the relay race. Each country could register 3 women's and 3 men's teams, but only one women's and one men's team from each country were included in the overall European Championship standings.
Finland won bronze in the women's European orienteering relay with the team of Eeva-Liina Ojanaho, Hanne Hilo and Ida Haapala. Swedish anchor Tove Alexandersson, who won the European championship, defeated Swiss Simona Aebersold by just over a minute. Finnish anchor Haapala was one minute and 38 seconds behind the winner. The Finnish men placed sixth in the relay at the European Orienteering Championships in Lithuania. The European Championship was won by Switzerland ahead of Norway and Sweden.
