The Critics Choice Association Announces New Podcast Awards
The inaugural awards will honor podcasts, scripted and unscripted series, and other digital creators across 500 critics’ votes.
On Thursday, the Critics Choice Association announced the establishment of the Critics Choice Creator Awards, honoring creators across podcasts, scripted and unscripted series, documentary shows, lifestyle content, game shows and sports series.
CCA CEO Joey Berlin explained that as entertainment migrates to social media and streaming platforms, critics must move with them. The shift follows the Golden Globes adding podcasts to their honors, with recognition now extending to creators like Jay Shetty, Steven Bartlett and Amy Poehler.
A voting body of 500 critics will determine winners across categories including Best Creator of the Year, Best Podcast Host, Best Audio Podcast, Best Video Podcast, Best Comedy Creator, Best Drama Creator, Best Comedy Series and Best Micro-Drama Series.
Submissions for work created between January 1 and December 31, 2026, open Monday, October 19, 2026, through Monday, February 1, 2027. Nominees will be announced Thursday, March 18, 2027, with winners revealed Thursday, April 15, 2027.
The awards acknowledge a fundamental shift toward treating content creation as a primary career requiring real business thinking. Adobe estimates more than 300 million people worldwide identify as creators, while Goldman Sachs projects the creator economy could reach $480 billion by 2027.
