Venezuela's Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, said Wednesday that the departure of opponents who were refugees at the Argentine embassy in Caracas was not the result of a rescue operation, as announced by the United States, but of a direct negotiation of the opposition with the Venezuelan government.

Chavismo did not make official comments on the departure of the five opposition leaders, but the dictatorship's channel, Telesur, said they did so with authorizations granted by the government "after high-level negotiations."
