The Democratic Republic of Congo reinstates the death penalty as a weapon against rebel groups

The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), presided over by Félix Tshisekedi, has announced the end of the moratorium on the death penalty - which dates back to 2003, when Joseph Kabila was president - and has decided to reintroduce it against military personnel who commit treason and those responsible for "urban banditry causing deaths," according to a document signed by the Justice Minister, Rose Mutombo.
