AI needs an enormous amount of energy, while at the same time many conjure up their potential to save the climate. Can AI even be sustainable?
New analysis by researcher and founder of tech sustainability website Digiconomist Alex de Vries-Gao shows that artificial intelligence (AI) systems could account for almost half of data center energy use by the end of this year. The estimates come as the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted that AI will use almost as much energy as the entire country of Japan by the end of the decade.
