The expected breakthrough in Hungarian tourism did not come during the peak summer period either: in July, nearly 2.5 million guests spent 6.7 million guest nights in Hungarian accommodation. The number of guests decreased by 0.4 percent, the revenue of accommodation increased by 5.8 percent to HUF 148.1 billion. Fewer foreigners arrived, and KSH recorded a 5.2 percent decline in Lake Balaton.
In July, Hungarian tourist accommodation establishments welcomed almost 2.5 million guests, but their number was 0.4 percent lower than a year earlier.
In July 2026, nearly 2.5 million guests spent 6.7 million guest nights in tourist accommodation (commercial, private and other). The number of guests decreased by 0.4%, and guest nights increased by 0.3% compared to a year earlier. In January–July 2026, the number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation was 1.9% more, and that of foreign guests was 0.5% less than in the same period of the previous year.
They were partially replaced by Hungarian visitors, but in the capital the foreign and domestic visitors lagged behind last year's figures.
