In extreme cases, it can cause serious neurological effects: out of six young people admitted to Guttmann since 2020, five left with sequelae, one even in a wheelchair, and only one fully recovered.
Nitrous oxide, also called "gas of laughter", has become popular as a recreational drug among young people, but its consumption is not harmless and continuous exposure can cause neurological sequelae, some irreversible, warn experts from the Guttmann Institute.
