Every 21 February, the world celebrates the International Bear Conservation Day, a date that seeks to raise awareness of the importance of protecting these endangered species. In South America, the Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus), also known as jukumari, is the only bear on the continent and a symbol of Andean ecosystems; and, in Bolivia, this species was declared a Natural Heritage of the Municipality of Tiquipaya.
