informacion.esThe unprecedented crisis opened in early August by the decision of the Government of Giorgia Meloni to reintroduce random controls on passengers from Spain, thus calling into question the Schengen area, a measure that Rome then justified because of the migratory situation in Ceuta, but whose real political motivations remain unclear, is becoming a growing headache for the Italian Prime Minister.
Since Saturday, 734 passengers have passed this procedure, of which the majority (301) have arrived in five planes to Barajas. At El Prat airport, 87 other third-country nationals from four different flights have had to be identified.
The Government has mobilized a large number of agents since 8 August, while Italy has rejected 15 foreigners arriving from Spain.
The Ministry of the Interior raises 8,216 passengers from Italy identified at Spanish airports since the entry into force of the controls. The figure corresponds to the official count of this Sunday at 13.00 hours and exceeds 7,700 passengers from the previous balance.
