France Overhaul Front Row to Face Japan in Nations Championship
Fabien Galthie keeps most of the backline after France’s 42-26 win over Australia and gives scrum-half Paul Graou a chance to debut.
On Thursday, France head coach Fabien Galthie announced a revamped front row for Saturday's Test match against Japan in Tokyo, building on last week's 42-26 victory over Australia.
Galthie stated he was "not completely satisfied" with his team's scrum performance and wants greater effectiveness in that area, using the match to develop his seven props.
New starters Regis Montagne, Maxime Lamothe, and Jefferson Poirot form the front row, while Alexandre Roumat replaces injured Oscar Jegou and scrum-half Paul Graou is set for his debut from the bench.
Japan, coached by Eddie Jones, also named a completely changed front row for the contest, as players face high humidity and temperatures around 30 Celsius in Tokyo.
Despite missing training earlier this week due to an adductor problem, Matthieu Jalibert retains his fullback spot, and Galthie kept the rest of his backline unchanged from the Australia victory.
Excellent this summer, the Clermontois Killian Tixeront seemed to be very well placed to start with Japan. Galthie preferred the Toulousain Alexandre Roumat. Here's why.
After their short setback against the All Blacks and their victory over the Wallabies, the Blues faced Japan on Saturday in Tokyo for the third day of the Championship of Nations.
Against Japan this Saturday in Tokyo, the XV of France aims for a enhanced victory to hope to take the lead of the Northern Hemisphere group, and confirm the beautiful promises of summer.
