Rajkot: Residents in Tears After Losing Homes in Demolition Drive; Seek Rehabilitation

- Officials say the clearance was aimed at reclaiming more than 87,000 square metres to restore the Aji River's flow and prevent flooding, while Harsh Sanghavi called the area a `haven for criminals`.
- Using 260 heavy vehicles including 63 bulldozers, officials mobilised over 1,500 municipal workers, 2,900 police personnel, and 42 RMC teams to clear mostly multi-storey buildings.
- The Gujarat High Court refused interim relief to 515 petitioning residents of Jangleshwar and adjourned the matter for February 27, with the state saying petitioners are not eligible for rehabilitation.
- Officials said debris removal will finish by tomorrow evening with final clean-up on Wednesday, and Jani hopes to lay the TP road project in the next 10 days; displaced evictees can apply for Awas Yojana housing as 3,000 additional units are being built.
