The Bank of France has announced that, as of 20 November 2026, all overdrafts (regardless of duration or amount) would be considered consumer loans.
Cash facilities and overdrafts will have to be subject to a credit assessment of the customer's creditworthiness.
From an amount of €200 overdraft, the customer's "solvency" will be assessed to "ensure that he is able to repay".
