A24 Has Dropped a Tense Trailer for the Backrooms Movie Adaptation — and I Think It's Perfect
Kane Parsons, the youngest director in A24 history, adapts his viral YouTube horror series with over 190 million views into a theatrical feature releasing May 29.
- A24 released the first teaser for Backrooms, a feature adapting Kane Parsons' viral series, and will release it in theaters on May 29, 2026.
- Parsons rose to prominence after his YouTube shorts, with Parsons' YouTube series amassing more than 190 million views, prompting A24 to greenlight the feature last summer and make him the youngest filmmaker in A24 history.
- In the teaser we hear Ejiofor narrate, `I found something,` as it shows mundane rooms morphing into off-kilter liminal spaces, centered on two people finding a mysterious door in a furniture showroom basement.
- Backed by A24 and The North Road Company's Chernin Entertainment, the film features Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell, with producers Shawn Levy and James Wan and arrives amid Markiplier's Iron Lung indie success earlier this year.
- Parsons directs from a script by Will Soodik, who wrote for Westworld, Homeland and Ash vs Evil Dead, and aims to expand Backrooms by hiring an explorer character to document an infinite space.
