BMW Launches I3 Mid-Sized EV Sedan With 560-Mile Range
The new BMW i3 sedan features advanced 800-volt architecture and bidirectional charging with a top range of 560 miles, marking BMW's largest investment in EV technology.
- BMW officially launched the all-new i3 electric sedan, bringing the 3 Series into the electric era on its new Neue Klasse modular platform, with the i3 50 xDrive offering a manufacturer-estimated 440-mile range.
- Built on an 800-volt architecture, the sedan features a sleeker, aerodynamic "2.5-box design" and will enter production this August at the automaker's historic Munich, Germany, plant.
- Dual motors deliver a combined 463 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of torque, with the vehicle capable of accepting up to 400 kilowatts of power and featuring cell-to-pack batteries offering a 20-percent energy density increase.

German carmaker BMW has unveiled the all-electric BMW i3, the second model in the Neue Klasse range, marking a significant technological leap in the brand's history. It is the first all-electric 3 Series sedan, combining the traditional features of the model with the capabilities of a new generation of electric drive and digital solutions, the manufacturer said in a statement.
BMW's new electric car i3 is here – with a range of 900 kilometers. It can also fast-charge 400 kilometers in 10 minutes. – The question is who wants an i4 now, says Teknikens Värld's Mattias Rabe, who is on site in Munich.
The version equipped with two electric motors can absorb enough energy for up to 400 kilometers in 10 minutes and has a peak power of 469 horsepower.
