Thames Water creditors pick John Hutton as chair designate
The creditor-backed plan also names Mike McTighe as vice-chair designate as lenders seek to avert nationalisation and overhaul the utility’s infrastructure.
- On Tuesday, Thames Water's senior creditor group selected former business secretary Lord John Hutton as independent chair-designate to lead the struggling utility's 10-year turnaround plan.
- Creditors also named Mike McTighe as vice-chair designate while seeking to restructure the firm's £20 billion debt and rebuild public trust in the essential service.
- The consortium, including Elliott Management, Aberdeen Investments, and Apollo Global Management, previously proposed offering the Government a "golden share" to secure approval for their revised rescue deal.
- While the Government has favored a "market solution," Prime Minister Andy Burnham has signaled interest in renationalization, and the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee rejected the takeover last month.
- The utility serves around 16 million customers across London and the South East, positioning infrastructure turnaround as critical for the new leadership team's success.
