Thai PM ousted over leaked phone call
A court has removed Thailand’s Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, from office for a serious breach of ethics over a contentious phone call she had with Cambodia’s former leader on June 15, as border tensions with Cambodia escalated.
Recognized guilty by the judges of having violated ethical rules, during a period of border conflict with Cambodia, the young heiress of the Shinawatra clan was, Friday, 29 August, removed from her post at the head of the Thai government.
In Thailand, the Constitutional Court has dismissed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The reason is a leaked phone call with a prominent Cambodian politician, in which Shinawatra "damaged the country's reputation." She is the fifth prime minister in 17 years to be ousted by the court, and the third in her family.
