Teyana Taylor Named BET Icon of the Year Ahead of Awards Show
The Golden Globe winner will receive one of BET’s highest honors as the 2026 ceremony adds to her growing list of accolades.
On Tuesday, BET announced that Teyana Taylor will receive the Icon of the Year Award at the 2026 BET Awards, with the 35-year-old star accepting the honor on Sunday, June 28, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Evolving from a multi-platinum singer-songwriter into an award-winning actress, the Harlem-born artist recently won a Golden Globe and earned an Oscar nomination for her role in the 2025 thriller "One Battle After Another."
BET executive Connie Orlando described Taylor as "the embodiment of what it means to be an icon," stating, "She doesn't ask for a seat at the table; she builds the table, designs the rooms, and sets the tone."
The ceremony, hosted by comedian Druski, will also honor Lauryn Hill with the Living Legend Award, recognizing pioneers who mastered their craft and remained true to the culture.
Taylor first introduced herself to the music industry with her 2014 debut "VII," building a catalog that includes the 2x-Platinum "Gonna Love Me" and Platinum "Issues/Hold On," alongside collaborations with Missy Elliott, Elton John, and Erykah Badu.
