SINGAPORE, JUL 29 – Singapore faces a sustained high terrorism threat driven by diverse extremist ideologies and increasing use of artificial intelligence in youth self-radicalisation, with 60 individuals issued orders since 2015.
- The ISD said on July 29 that Singapore’s terrorism threat continues due to diverse extremist ideologies and the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- In the wake of global Islamist propaganda surges, ISD said ISIS and Al-Qaeda have incited attacks against Israeli and Jewish interests since the October 2023 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people.
- The ISD said online platforms have been used to disseminate extremist materials among youths, enabling radicalisation, recruitment, and complicating threats with emerging technologies like AI and 3D printing.
- ISD emphasized that public vigilance is critical and urges members of the public to join the SGSecure movement to enable timely help.
- Amid complex online threats, ISD called for increased collaboration between public agencies, private tech firms, and civil society partners to guide digital engagement.
