Terrorism: Court Sentences Female Arms Courier Arrested by DSS to Death
A Federal High Court in Katsina State sentenced Hauwa Mukhtar to death by hanging after finding her guilty on two counts of conspiracy and aiding terrorist activities.
According to court records, Mukhtar was arrested on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park while allegedly attempting to transport 438 rounds of ammunition to Ado, a suspected bandit commander operating from Dunburum Forest in Zamfara State.
Justice Bawale ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt after evaluating evidence and testimony. Mukhtar was sentenced under provisions of the Katsina State Penal Code Law.
This conviction comes two weeks after a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced four men to death for their roles in the June 5, 2022 terror attack on Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.
The DSS has now secured multiple terrorism convictions this year, including Halima Haliru Umar's 20-year sentence for unlawful possession of AK-47 ammunition. Security sources described Mukhtar's conviction as a major achievement for the agency.
