South Bay, Long Beach campuses named California Distinguished Schools
- On March 26, 2025, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond announced that 336 elementary schools statewide, including Weston Elementary in Ripon, have been selected as 2025 California Distinguished Schools.
- Established in 1985, the California Distinguished Schools Award recognizes schools for their innovation, talent, and success in supporting students, and remains one of the state's most important ways to celebrate exceptional schools.
- The California Department of Education selected these schools based on data reported through the 2024 California School Dashboard, focusing on academic excellence, growth, and a positive school climate.
- To qualify, schools needed to demonstrate exceptional growth in ELA or math to close persistent achievement gaps, or achieve high levels of ELA and math achievement, while also ensuring at least 95% student participation in statewide assessments.
- The honored schools will be recognized on May 30, 2025, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, and will hold the title for two years, representing their efforts to provide exemplary public education to all students, as emphasized by Superintendent Thurmond: "Excellent elementary schools play a critical role in the life outcomes of our young people.
