Telangana HC Grants One Week Anticipatory Bail to Pawan Khera in Case Filed by Assam CM's Wife Amid Passport Row
The court said Khera may seek relief before the concerned court after Assam Police searched his Delhi residence over passport and asset allegations.
On Friday, the Telangana High Court granted Congress leader Pawan Khera one week of anticipatory bail in a case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, over passport and property allegations.
Khera previously alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds passports from India, the UAE, and Egypt, and owns undisclosed luxury properties in Dubai and a company in Wyoming, USA.
The Sarma family denied the claims, terming the documents "AI-generated fabrications," while Assam Police searched Khera's Delhi residence earlier this week, prompting him to relocate to Hyderabad.
Representing Khera, Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi argued the case reflects political vendetta, whereas Assam Advocate General Devajit Saikia contended the plea is not maintainable and alleged Khera forged his Aadhaar Card.
The court instructed Khera to file an application before the concerned court within one week, providing temporary relief as legal tensions persist over the defamation complaint.
