Crews Searching for Missing Swimmer in Ocean City, New Jersey, Coast Guard Says
The Coast Guard said one person was rescued and crews from several agencies are searching for the missing teenager after he lost his board and vanished.
A 19-year-old man went missing on Monday while boogie boarding near the 10th Street beach in Ocean City, New Jersey, after being struck by a wave and failing to resurface around 5 p.m.
Ocean City Beach Patrol members rescued one person from the water, who reported that the missing swimmer lost his boogie board after being struck by a wave approximately 200 yards from shore.
The United States Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police deployed boats, drones, and helicopters to scan the area, while witnesses formed a human chain in the water to assist in the search.
As of Tuesday, the Ocean City Police Department confirmed the 19-year-old had not been located, and officials have not released his identity as search operations remain ongoing.
Lifeguards are not yet stationed at Jersey Shore beaches, as patrols typically begin closer to Memorial Day, so authorities closed the beach and blocked access at 11 p.m. Monday.
