‘Ted Lasso’ Returns to the Pitch with a New Challenge on Apple TV
Ted takes over AFC Richmond’s women’s team as Apple TV+ resets the series with new players, a smaller budget and a cramped locker room, the creators said.
- Ted Lasso returns to Apple TV+ tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5, for a fourth season. Jason Sudeikis reprises his role, shifting the show's focus to the Lady Greyhounds, a second-division women's football team.
- Originally slated to conclude after three seasons, star Sudeikis reconsidered following a creative meeting in Ojai, California. Apple aims to extend its flagship franchise by introducing a new squad rather than recycling old storylines.
- Veteran television producer Jack Burditt joined the team to work alongside Sudeikis. The new season introduces assistant coach Alice Chilton, played by Tanya Reynolds, while retaining cast members Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple.
- New episodes will stream every Wednesday on Apple TV+ following tomorrow's one-episode premiere. Sudeikis noted a coaching shift: "There is a fundamental difference with the way personally interacts with men and boys" versus women.
- The Lady Greyhounds face distinct hurdles, including smaller budgets and shared locker rooms. Co-creator Brendan Hunt stated: "The amount of return engagement from this team is different than what we've experienced before.
