Teck receives provincial certificate for to extend B.C. Interior copper mine
- Teck Highland Valley Copper Partnership received a B.C. environmental assessment certificate to extend the Highland Valley Copper Mine from 2028 to 2043, as announced by the province on June 17.
- The extension is expected to produce approximately 900 million additional tonnes of ore and nearly two million additional tonnes of copper.
- The expansion will create 200 permanent jobs and up to 1,250 jobs during construction, increasing employment from 1,320 workers.
- Seventeen legally binding conditions are included in the certificate to mitigate adverse effects, particularly on First Nations and local ecosystems.
