A Smart Coffee Maker Uploaded 1TB of Data in 10 Days, and Nobody Knows Why
Nomad said he is replacing his parents' smart coffee maker after it sent 1TB of data in 10 days and saturated part of their Wi-Fi.
- On Oct 07, Nomad reported that a Smart Keurig COFFEE MACHINE broadcast 1TB of DATA over 10 DAYS after he discovered the massive traffic spike while monitoring home network activity.
- Nomad, who helps manage Wi-Fi, noticed the unusual volume after checking network logs and publicly questioned Keurig about the activity, noting the device generated more traffic than expected.
- Although the device generated 1TB of DATA, most remained within the local home network; Nomad attributed the access point saturation to a likely bug within the COFFEE MACHINE.
- Nomad decided to replace the COFFEE MACHINE, stating, "It's not worth keeping an IOT device connected that has the capability of bugging out and causing saturation like this did."
- With over 10 years of experience in IT, Nomad viewed the incident as a learning experience, advising against keeping unreliable IOT devices connected to home networks to prevent similar failures.
