'Tech is booming': Canada's first quantum computing hub boots up in southern Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, CANADA, AUG 2 – The Lethbridge Super hub offers southern Alberta businesses access to quantum computing for solving complex problems and is the first of a planned global network, SuperQ said.

  • In southern Alberta, businesses gained access to Canada's first publicly accessible quantum supercomputer when SuperQ Quantum Computing opened a hub at the Tecconnect innovation centre recently.
  • As the first in a planned network, the Lethbridge Super hub leads, with additional hubs slated for Canada, the United States, Europe, India, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • In plain English, the Super platform allows businesses in southern Alberta to trial complex problem-solving, with Muhammad Khan explaining `The way it does it is by combining classical computing with quantum computing, and doing all the complexity stuff under the hood`.
  • On social media, Nate Glubish, Alberta's minister of technology and innovation, highlighted the hub and declared, `Alberta tech is booming`.
  • Super is slated to become available to the broader public by licence, and telehealth companies have approached the hub to develop AI doctors amid clinician shortages.
